Hearts with major vessels attached are intended for use with the CIBT laboratory exercise "The Broken Heart." One heart is required per team of students. The CIBT lab has a section covering patent ductus arteriosus. Because the abatoir cuts the vessels quite short, this structure is not generally available to observe with these specimens. The full heart lung preparation available as catalog #EDB-401 can be used for this purpose. To facilitate the discussion of fetal patterns of circulation the remnant of the foramen ovale known as the fossa ovalis can generally be found in the right atrium.
