The slug lab can be used as an introductory lab to demonstrate scientific methodology and experimental design.
The "Goldenrod Gall" lab was a featured lab in 2013 and many supplemental materials for that activity are available on our Featured Labs pages. This activity is a fun way to study how involved ecological communities can be. For advanced classes it offers an analysis component that allows stuents to learn some basic data interpretation skills and statistical methods.
The "Slug" lab depends on the availability of either slugs or snails but is a good chance for students to design their own experiment and test the results of their hypotheses. Contact West Hill Bio for help in implementing this lab.
